Aquasana Whole House Water Filter Reviews

Review of the Aquasana Whole House Water Filtration System

Aquasana in the boxThe Aquasana shower filter is a water filter that is applied to your shower; it filters water in a two-stage process. It ensures that the water that comes into contact with your body is absolutely clean, pure and healthy.

Most people are unaware as to the benefits of using a shower filter and negative impact from showering with tap water.

Personally I was completely shocked when I found out how many toxins the body absorbs just through the skin.

I figured as long as I was using a filter for my drinking water I didn’t have anything to worry about. But once I started researching shower filters I realized that my initial judgment was incorrect and that they are incredibly useful.

This review will give a detailed description of how the Aquasana shower filter works and how it can help you safeguard your health from the dangers posed by the contaminated water that comes out of taps.

Tap water is not perfectly pure

The problem is that the water that comes out of the tap is a long way from being perfectly clean and pure. In the best of cases it is only sufficiently pure and clean to comply with local laws. In practice, the chemical analysis at ShowerMeister shows that in virtually all locations the water that comes out of the tap can contain over one thousand different chemical contaminants.

The majority of these contaminants are present in low concentrations, but are nevertheless potentially very harmful. Most of these contaminants are nasty chemicals known as synthetic organic compounds (SOC), which are highly toxic. Some of these chemical contaminants are even carcinogenic — an example of a carcinogenic contaminant is benzene.

Another category of chemical contaminant present in tap water is volatile organic compounds (VOC). These are just as harmful as synthetic organic compounds, and for the same reason.

The key point here is that when you take a shower with regular tap water you are exposing your skin to these chemical contaminants. They can cause all sorts of health problems, especially in view of the fact that when you shower with hot water your skin pores dilate and make your skin even more susceptible to being damaged by these chemicals, because they have greater access to the inside of the pores. This isn’t even to mention washing your clothes and then wearing them all day with all of these contaminants in them.

The other two major contaminants of tap water are chlorine and biological contaminants such as bacteria and other pathogens. Chlorine is an irritant and has effects on your skin that are entirely negative: chlorine makes the skin dry and excessively acidic, which means that it will age much faster. Ladies over the age of 40 are particularly at risk of experiencing accelerated skin aging if they regularly shower in hot chlorinated water.

The solution to this problem is very straightforward: applying a filter to the shower head will result in the effective filtration of the water and the consequent removal of the contaminants described above, making the water perfectly safe and indeed very healthy and beneficial. This is where the Aquasana shower filter comes in.

Inside and How it Works Works

Aquasana designThe Aquasana shower filter turns regular tap water into perfectly clean, pure and healthy water by removing harmful contaminants from it without affecting the water itself.

The Aquasana shower filter does this by means of a two-stage filtration process: in the first stage it removes chlorine and also makes the pH more skin-friendly by means of copper/zinc media. This stage of the filtration process removes chlorine and increases the pH (makes it less acidic).

In the second stage of the filtration process a special substance known as activated carbon removes the chemical contaminants like volatile organic compounds and synthetic organic compounds.

Activated carbon is essentially carbon powder that is made extremely porous by exposure to oxygen. When organic chemicals come into contact with it, they stick to it, while the water is free to pass through, which means that the chemical contaminants remain in the filter.

Activated carbon has a very impressive absorptive capacity because the microscopic pores give it an enormous total available surface area. The activated carbon in the Aquasana shower filter comes from coconut shell, so the source is completely natural.

Benefits of Shower Filtration Systems

Aquasana installation kitMost people are unaware of the dangers of showering in tap water. It seems safe to assume that drinking tap water would be more dangerous than showering in tap water, but this is often a misconception.

The amount of chemicals that the body absorbs through the skin is quite shocking. Not only do you absorb chemicals such as chlorine and other carcinogenic contaminants through the skin, but you also inhale contaminants into the lungs.

When people shower they usually turn the heat up quite a bit which causes chemicals to vaporize and easily infiltrate the body’s defenses. The heat of the water is the top contributor for allowing these chemicals to enter the body and since most people are unaware of this they put themselves at an even higher risk.

Researchers at Rutgers University actually confirmed that showering in hot water for 10 minutes allowed the same amount of chlorine to enter the body as drinking 2 liters of tap water. Most people don’t even believe me when I tell them this but the research thoroughly backs it up.

There are also several cosmetic benefits that go along with using an Aqusana shower filtration system. Have you ever noticed how your skin and hair feels after spending some time in a swimming pool?

Your skin and hair is left incredibly dry and damaged and the at a slower rate the same effect results from showering with tap water.

This can also be relative to your location because some water supplies are more chlorinated than others. That’s why its always a good idea to request a water containment report from your local water supplier or do some testing yourself.

Picking up a home testing kit is relatively inexpensive so I would highly recommend anyone that is curious about their water supply picking one up.

Without the negative effects of chlorine your skin and hair will retain more moisture and appear younger and healthier. Another bonus of chemical free water is it extends the life of hair coloring and highlights by removing the chlorine that makes them fade away at a much faster rate.

How to Install the Whole House Water Filtration System

Watch this quick video and learn about the easy installation process. This short video gives an explanation on how to install the shower filter as well as ,change the filter. The filter has to be changed about once every six months depending on the usage of the shower.

Price

The price of the Aquasana shower filter at the time of writing is under $100. This means that for the price of two up-market restaurant meals you are giving yourself the privilege of showering in truly clean and healthy water indefinitely. Of course the activated carbon must be replaced when it is saturated with contaminants, but that is a very reasonable expense that you will only have to deal with every six months or so.

Conclusion…

This particular shower filter is a wonderful filter that is fitted to the shower and purifies water to a very high health standard so that you can enjoy the considerable health benefits of showering in clean water, as opposed to water that is contaminated with chlorine, pathogens and dangerous volatile and synthetic organic compounds.

The Aquasana shower filter achieves this impressive purification process with two different media: the carbon/zinc medium removes chlorine from the water and makes the pH of the water less acidic. This will remove the considerable aging effects of chlorinated water. The other medium, activated carbon, is extremely porous and traps synthetic and volatile organic chemicals as water passes through.

The chief benefit of the Aquasana shower filter is that you will be showering with water that you know is truly clean. The issue deserves your consideration, because the last thing you want to do is expose your skin to these contaminants when it is most vulnerable as a result of the pores being dilated by the hot water and steam. By using this filter, instead of aging your skin and exposing it to harmful chemicals with every shower, you will actually be helping it by hydrating it.
